THE PRE-JUNIOR EXPERIENCE

Pre-Junior is designed for experienced CANSkaters and acts as a stepping stone into Skate Canada’s STARSkate figure skating program.

This program is for skaters ages 4–13 who have completed CANSkate Badge 3 or have been recommended by an MKSC coach.

A great fit for skaters who want to:

Pre-Junior is registered as one complete program package.

The package includes:
2 x on-ice sessions/week
1 x off-ice session/week

Skaters train in a professionally coached group environment, with two 50-minute coached ice sessions and one 45 minute instructed off-ice session per week.

Registration is for the entire program only.

Professional coaching is included with your Pre-Junior registration.

Unlike STARSkate, Pre-Junior families do not need to hire a private Base Coach. Skaters learn in a coached group environment, similar to CANSkate, with professional instruction included in the program fee.

This is an important difference from Junior STARSkate, where families hire their own MKSC Base Coach.

FIGURE SKATES

Pre-Junior skaters are required to wear figure skates.

HELMET

A properly fitted CSA-approved hockey helmet is required until CanSkate Badge 5 has been completed.

PARENT SUPERVISION

Parents or guardians of skaters under 12 are required to remain in the arena to supervise their skaters while coaches focus on instruction.

On-ice sessions focus on more advanced skating development, including edge control, glide, agility and blade precision.

The weekly off-ice session complements that training with a 45 min dance/gym class to build body awareness, flexibility, conditioning and jumping skills.

See CANSkate Registration Page to see current schedule for the season.
